Content Repurposing: Turn One Idea Into Ten Posts

By Phil Gee

One of the biggest challenges small business owners face with social media is the constant demand for fresh content. It feels like a treadmill that never stops. But there's a better way, and it starts with thinking differently about what you already have.

The Repurposing Mindset

Every piece of content you create has more than one life. A single idea can become a blog post, a video, multiple social media posts, an email, and more — all from the same core message. The trick is to plan for this from the start.

Start With a Pillar Idea

Choose one substantial topic — something you could talk about for ten minutes if someone asked. This is your pillar. It should be broad enough to break down but specific enough to be useful.

The Ten-Post Framework

Here's how one pillar idea becomes ten pieces of content:

  1. A blog post — the full treatment, 800-1200 words
  2. A carousel — the key points broken into swipeable slides
  3. A short video — a 60-second summary for Reels or TikTok
  4. A quote graphic — one standout line designed for sharing
  5. Three text posts — each focusing on one sub-point from the blog
  6. An email — sharing the core insight with your list
  7. A LinkedIn article — adapted for a professional audience
  8. A poll or question — engaging your audience around the topic

Work in Batches

Don't create all ten pieces in one day. Create the blog first, then spend an hour turning it into the other formats. You'll be amazed how much faster the derivatives come together when the core idea already exists.

Schedule Across Platforms

Spread the content across a week or two. The blog goes out first, then the social posts follow over several days. Different people see different formats, so repetition across platforms isn't a problem — it's reinforcement.

Quality Doesn't Suffer

Some worry that repurposing means cutting corners. It doesn't. Each format should be crafted properly for its platform. You're saving ideation time, not production time.

The Result: Consistency Without Burnout

When you repurpose consistently, you stop dreading the content treadmill. You show up regularly across platforms without working yourself into the ground. And your message reaches more people because it's delivered in the formats they prefer.
